University of Virginia

  • 4 Year
  • Charlottesville, VA

Freshman : I absolutely love everything about the University of Virginia. I visited several colleges before making my decision and knew that UVA was the place for me. It has a great reputation, the grounds are beautiful, and being part of a sports team is an added plus and has many rewards. My team is like family. Also, the area around the university, is very inviting. There is so much to do with lots of dining and shopping. I know that having a UVA degree will help me in the future in finding a good job. I can’t picture myself to be anywhere else! This University has it all!

Washington & Lee University

  • 4 Year
  • Lexington, VA

Freshman : W&L offers endless opportunities to its students (grants, fellowships, study abroad, extracurriculars, classes, etc.). The culture is social; people are friendly and energetic. Greek life and parties are popular, but learning to navigate this environment strengthens your sense of self and knowledge of your own needs. There are other people and alternative activities – a student just needs to be willing to explore beyond what is the most visible option.

There is work to do and changes still to be made here, but that’s why W&L’s motto is “not unmindful of the future.” If you are willing to fully challenge yourself to take action in and out of the classroom, you will truly find a home here among the quaint city of Lexington, the beauty of the nature, and the enthusiasm of the professors. Reaching adulthood and personal growth isn’t meant to be easy, but at W&L, you will build relationships that remind you what it’s all for.

Virginia Tech

  • 4 Year
  • Blacksburg, VA

Niche User : Virginia Tech is an ideal institution for new opportunities and growth. There is such a huge amount of school spirit and pride for being a Hokie with the students, which I have never genuinely heard or seen from other institutions! Campus/student life is notably wonderful, and the majority of the students are incredibly lively and welcoming. There are so many different people on campus, and they all have their own amazing passions. The institution provides exposure to many experiences to explore like clubs, GobblerFest, athletics and football games, dorm activities, parties, hiking trails, and even checking out scenic spots on campus and throughout the town. From what I’ve already experienced through campus visits as a prospective Freshman for Fall 2018, I’m so stoked to fully experience and indulge in everything about my new second home!

College of William & Mary

  • 4 Year
  • Williamsburg, VA

Freshman : I love this college! There are many things to do in Williamsburg, but also around campus, as well. It’s a smaller school, which is great, and the majority of the professors try to get to know their students. It’s fairly easy to get into undergraduate research here, which is great for future endeavors. The housing process is bad because they don’t do a head count of everyone and have to deal with running out of housing/rooms. The course selection website is awful and constantly crashes when trying to register. Other than that, it’s great.

University of Richmond

Freshman : Everything is pretty awesome here. Small classes allow you to be noticed and the professors really seem to care about you. Their focus on LA allows students to either branch out or stick on a designated route. The campus is beautiful. Basically, it’s pretty cool.

The students are also pretty awesome. I never did anything with greek life and met my friends mostly through nerdy clubs (games club, anime, video games, etc), so my friend group is contrastingly diverse (though quite extensive) relative to the other reviewers.

The Comp Sci program (my area) here is also definitely growing, so I’m excited to see what happens. You could say I have no regrets!

James Madison University

  • 4 Year
  • Harrisonburg, VA

Junior : James Madison University is an outstandingly fantastic campus, which includes nice students and helpful staff. Harrisonburg may not be the biggest college town, but there’s things always going on off campus, as well as on campus grounds as well. Furthermore, studies are taken seriously, as well as any extracurriculars, especially music, which is something JMU excels at, and football, with our team going to the National Championship two times in recent years. It’s not like a big name college, such as Alabama or Notre Dame, but it has that feel of one. It has the heart of one. It has the people of one. If you’re considering applying or coming to a decision, this is definitely a great place to call home, even if it’s just for a little while. And if you aren’t considering, please do! Come take a tour of the town of Harrisonburg and the campus JMU has. It has everything a college kid needs to succeed and have a little fun as well!

Virginia Military Institute

  • 4 Year
  • Lexington, VA

Freshman : Attending the Virginia Military Institute is a difficult, but rewarding journey. You will have to deal with a system that pushes you down, while instilling you with the fortitude to get back up. While this school produces officers, the alumni association will give any VMI alumni a job on the spot. This is what separates this school from others. Given that the alumni run this school, they will make sure the graduates will be taken care of in the future.

Liberty University

  • 4 Year
  • Lynchburg, VA

Alum : I am a graduate of Liberty University’s business school. I received my MBA while working full-time and taking a full-time class load. After looking around at various graduate schools, I chose Liberty due to its affordability, reputation, and its accreditation.

Due to discounts through work, my MBA had a total cost of approximately $16,000 for the entire program! Otherwise, the degree is still an extremely affordable option with a price of around $24,000 for the entire program. In comparison, I considered some schools in my state of North Carolina – one of which was the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Even in the online track, UNC’s website stated that the MBA program would cost a minimum of $99,000 total!

I found Liberty to be very challenging and thorough. Please note: if you are not good at writing, you may not do very well in this graduate school. Our assignments were comprised of writing 90% of the time.

The University President is extremely friendly and proactive within the community, which gives a very welcoming feeling. The dorms are very nice compared to other colleges surrounding the peninsula. Virginia Commonwealth University

  • Richmond, VA

Freshman : This college has a number of resources that are available to it’s students, such as counslers, tutors, and more. I highly recomend VCU to anyone who wants to be succesful in their major, and make a new family along the way. The communities here at VCU are so inclusive and accepting, they can make anyone feel at home! The classes at VCU are challenging but the as a student you reap the benifits from the hard work. Proffessors are always willing to work with their students to ensure their success in their classes, with flexible office hours for example. Also if you for some reason miss a lab most instructors will help you find a lab that works with your schedule to insure your grade won’t suffer.

Jefferson College of Health Sciences

  • 4 Year
  • Roanoke, VA

Freshman : Jefferson College has a great faculty! Most of the professors are available if you need to seek additional help with a class. There are a variety of resources available to help us as students get through classes; for example, we have a learning and writing center which helps students review their paper and give input on their writing, or help with the use of APA format. Students are very personable and the student to teacher ratio is marvelous. I love small classes whereas at different colleges the student to teacher ration is for say 1:400.

Junior : Great campus. great professors. great curriculum. overall, a great school! I came into this school having no direction or plan and it wasn’t long before Roanoke helped me discover my passion. Freshman : Hollins is a wonderful environment to live and learn in! There is a real sense of community; the history and quirkiness of the school only add to the charm. While the faculty and staff are incredibly caring and attentive. There are also a ton of opportunities on and off campus. Roanoke is a great location in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains which provides endless hiking trails and outdoor areas to explore, and downtown is just a quick drive from campus as well, there really is something for everyone. Old Dominion University

  • Norfolk, VA

Freshman : As my first year here at ODU comes to a close I have to say I have really enjoyed it and cannot wait for sophomore year. The campus is very diverse and that was a big thing for me first coming here. From the students to the professors. So far I have not had a single professor that I didn’t like, and am thankful at how understanding and helpful they have been. Also, I have made many relationships with my peers and professors and have learned the importance of networking. I am not one of those students who parties often, but ODU parties are great especially after one of our athletics teams win. Also, keep in mind you are at college and not everyone has good intentions so make friends and travel in groups and be safe. Future students if you decide to live on campus their are so many options after your first year. The first year you don’t have as much to choose from but I am excited I will be staying in these really comfy campus apartments. I cannot wait for the years to come here at ODU!

They are open and will sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with you. The campus is warm and inviting, the student life is full of energy and opportunities for involvement. We all come together for the homecoming football games in the fall, and the breathtaking conservatory performances all year round. My favorite time of the year on campus is just before Winter break when campus is all decorated with red and blue Christmas lights. And then there’s always the Apple Blossom festival at the end of the spring semester.
